Heru,

I & I have just left your web site and reviewed all the samples of both your new CD's and I & I wanted to share with you and others how uplifting the samples were. You have once again produced two fine products that Africans at home and abroad can become more motivated, educated, and uplifted by. The addition of music is spiritually uplifting and the rythyms you used are awesome. As one whom has always admired your ancestral artistic creative expressions of word sound and power and the creative blacktricity in your Garvey Pan African Nationalist delivery, both in your live and recorded performances, these two new CD's will be cherished by many minds, hearts and souls. Thank you Heru for once again providing more enriching vibes and knowledge for our people. Our children need more straight forward and committed artist like yourself. I just wanted to shout out to you and the world on your message board for you have once again produced some great works with some great words and music and are truly a Black Star Lion on time for the 21st century. Forward Ever Backward Never! Up You Mighty Race We Can Accomplish What We Will!

Peace, Love and Prosperity BaBa Senghor Jawara Baye

Greetings Heru,
My name is Kimakinda Musongela, I Live in Coventry in the UK and originally from the DR Congo. I have been really fascinated by what you write and say, and the knowledge you have on many things that affect People of African descent. The other thing that I find interesting is that you are probably the only living African person coming directly from Africa(not African-American/West Indian), that I have heard and met who is so conscious on every matter affecting Africa and all Africans around the world. I came across your website through Harambee radio station about six months ago. Keep up with what you are doing, people like you have a massive impact on black youths all over. Do you have any plans in performing in the UK in the future? Keep up the good work. Peace.

There are not many people i have heard who have simply put the era that we live in so beautifully. Africa is a beautiful place but it is a pain to see people so ignorant and shallow about it. Our culture and heritage is being taken away from us by our own people, our language is being lost and there will be a time when we ourselves will be lost. I am a Ghanaian born and bred but have lived in London for the past 5 years. I went back this summer and it was a shock to see the country for what it has become when the main importance is to become as rich and westernised as possible, when the children of Africa can barely speak their own language or understand their culture to be rich one. Here i sound like i am just venting my frustration but i was given one of your poems in video form and i knew that you understood that we African are the first ever civilisation i know that grammatically what i just said is wrong but we continue to supply the world with are resources both materially e. g gold, iron and with people how many African nurses and other professionals have left i do not blame them because we all want better lives for our children but when will the African woman stop and this about how she is scarring her children, Ghanian girls bleach their skin thinking that the fairer you are the better you are, when will they stop relaxing their hair and not think why they are doing it but want their hair to be as straight as the white mans. I missed your poetry in Ghana as i arrived too late for Panafest but the reviews from others were amazing. Thanks it makes me happy that there are still some Africans who still think outside the box and are willing to speak their minds and not regurgitate repeated crap about sex, love and money. Bless You Heru. I am an avid reader of your thoughts section and I am absolutely blown away by your writing. I have heard about you through the grapevine as one of the greatest spoken word performers around, but I can not imagine that your performance is more on point than your writing. If it is than I will have to catch a plane to your next performance. Your articles The Ancestrally Connected Artist, your interviews, and your open letter to all black artists have shed so much light in my own thought process. I have recently read your new entry called I hope you believe me, the non rhyming poem. I literally cried after I read that. Please know that you are making a huge difference for our people. Heru, you made my year yesterday. I saw you perform your poetry at the New Orleans International Arts Festival. I came to see Common and Maxi Priest, but you stole the show. Every word you spoke was so important and profound. You are the first artist to ever speak about the street named here after the chief slavemaster Jefferson Davis. I've never seen an artist stop a show with a crowd of thousands of people and do what you did yesterday. You enlightened so many of us here with your political poetry, unapologetic message and Godly delivery. I am thanking you on behalf of the thousands of black people in the festival audience who didn't get a chance to thank you. You are a true hero for us black folks. Asante Sana!!!!

Heru: I LISTENED to you and you touched my spirit. I HEARD every word you spoke and understood for the first time in my life what it meant to have the opportunity to actually be in the company of a truly gifted human being. You are profound, you evoke levels of thought that transcends into multi-dimensional realities that are applicable to what IS and not what is preceived to be in the here and now. I've read the multitude of commments from people who were fortunate to listen to you and observe your "performance" and I use that term losely because you are NOT a performer...you believe in what you convey; therefore, I would rather use the term "TEACHER" because that is what you are. There really aren't any words to describe you and what you have taught me in one evening of listening and digesting your words, your meaning, your thoughts. I've never been exposed to you and I'm not a believer in faith but I do believe that there are forces that drives us to be where we need to be at a particular point in time. I was where I needed to be to be exposed to you and I can only say that I am elated to have chosen the right path to end up in your presence. Thank you for the enlightenment and you can rest assure that this will NOT be a one time experience for me.

Shalom my brother Heru: It was great to behold your face after some time, and to savor the profound "food for thought" that you shared with the family last Sunday day. Keep the fire blazing red hot my brother! I am particularly pleased that you have given life to the principle of cooperative economics, a huge interest of mine. I have discussed with a brother who is centrally located as I, the need to arrange a facility to host a meeting to springboard Hapi Valley. He does have the connections to do this initially in Hollywood, but since Kwanzaa celebrations are daily this week, he thinks that we should wait until next week. I am fine with that, unless you'd like to suggest otherwise. Nonetheless, as I have told you, I want to do this and I am prepared with some useful savvy and experience to help make this project a reality. The power of our intentions will cause us to succeed. You can contact me here and/or by phone @ (954) 815-5214. Blessed love and peace, my brother. You a rare and distinguished son of your people--the sons and daughter of light. Shalom ooh-vracha...and blessed love to you and yours. Chief Yiraiyah Naftali Ben Yisrael ps. My son, the young master drummer asked me to give you his regards too.

I just wanted to let you know that I am definitely impressed! You truly see and understand the poor condition of Blacks worldwide. Only through unity and self-realization will we ever uplift ourselves. We are a race of sleepwalkers...believing all of what we see and hear; unable to identify with our history and culture. I know that here in the United States of America...Blacks are in a United State of Amnesia. Anyways, the site is simply the truth and that's something we all need more of. May I encourage, motivate, equip, and inspire you to stay strong, healthy and focus, as we are the ships and boats that will raise the conscious level to the subconscious level of our people, the place where JAH rules and reins. For we are One, and that there is no time for frivolous pursuits (drama). We must show genuine grit and guts (have a dread loc heart), by containing a situation (our comatose love ones and the children), that's slipping out of control. We must be the rock against which waves break (standing for righteousness) for them, and the generations to come (??), while those that we rescue hang on safely. We may get water splashed in out faces (people against the struggle), so be it, as long as we save just one, we have the victory. For if we get tired racing against men (those against us/government, and the likes of), how can we race against horses (the mightier ones we still have to face)? If we can't even stand up in open country (the wilderness of the america which is a business, which I do not believe deserve to have the capital letter (A)), how will we manage in the jungle by the Jordan (the beginning of the promise land-Africa). Even our own brothers and sisters, and family members have betrayed us in the struggle, and join in the attack against us. We must continue to BE the change the world needs to see, for the Miracle is called "WE". "WE THE PEOPLE" Encore. Sail on, sail on, my brother. We have a lot of docking to do to do in the mind-set of the left behind. For it is not for ourselves alone. Failure is Impossible. Impossible is nothing. Impossible is only an opinion. I will be listening to you on Harambee Radio Network, with Brother Senghor Baye, this week. THanks for being RAW or backwards WAR in the truth. Backwards Never. Forward always. Please keep doing the poetry thing, because there are still people that need to feed your knowledge like I have. Thanks.

Heru, thank you for blessing Creative Minds House of Culture on Friday, January 9th. I agree with sista Elisha, I very much appreciate your integrity, intelligence and modesty. However, once you are on the stage, you are like the conquering lion of Judah delivering words that will will eat at the hearts of those you speak. I had the chance to listen to your cd and it blew me away!!! I shared you words with a group friends and they were also moved by your words. Chicago needs to hear more from Heru -Keep up the good work!

Brother Heru I have not had the pleasure to meet you or hear you in person but your CDs were the first spoken word CDs that I ever heard and now two years later I'm still hearing them louder than all the other noise out there. I am also a spoken word artist representing the Black on Black Rhyme Poetry Troupe out of Tallahassee and your knowledge, passion, and dedication continue to move me to reclaim my greatness just as you move our people to remember and reclaim our (collective) greatness. Stay blessed in your travels brother and I look forward to the day that our paths do cross.

Heru... my life at Syracuse University will never be the same. I am now convinced that there is a God. An African God. And when this God decided to create a spoken word poet, Heru was made.I have been crying off and on for three days straight since your performance. Not because of pain but because I was able to witness the highest of greatness in a human being. What you did Tuesday night on the stage was the most powerful performance myself and my friends have seen. They all agree.I have seen many “famous poets”, but I have never, ever, ever shaken in my seat before. I trembled all evening. You performed for maybe one and a half to 2 hours long and didn’t even take a break. You didn’t even pause for a drink of water. Are you even human? I could see that you were ready to perform even longer until they announced that the auditorium was closing. And how do you remember all that information in your poems? I’m the sister who bought 8 of your cds and I’ve been playing your cds to everyone I know over the phone. Heru, thank you for what you did for us at Syracuse and showing us from example the highest we can be as African people. I love you for your presence on earth.

I don't know if there is a such thing as correct words, and so I don't know exactly how to thank you for your delivery at SAS's Convocation tonight. Just to refresh your memory, I was the sista with the short twists who came up and asked to hug you afterwards. All I have to say is that you are the living manifestation of everything that my father has taught me about our people. You are the passion and strength that God meant for us. You are evidence that we can be awakened to our greatness and beauty in this universe. I am so glad that you were awakened at so young an age and decided not to be selfish and dedicated your energy and time to sharing with your brothers and sisters. We need people like you because there are too many out there claiming to be our spokespersons and what they are saying is not only detrimental to themselves, but to all of us because they are only spewing the ideas of their oppressor. Too many of us believe in our supposed "inherent inferiority." I have to struggle with this every time I go home to DC and hear my little sisters make fun of my "nappy" hair and hear my mother make jokes about Africans like she is not an African herself. Even though I am not alone in this battle, it feels that way now that I've gone through the de-programming process and still have loved ones who are left behind in conformity. What can I do? The only thing I can think to do now is to play your cds when I get home. I hope they understand then. Again, I thank you so very much and I will pray that the ancestors continue to speak through you. Also, I thank you wholeheartedly for the CD's. I was ready to charge them to my credit card or put them on some kind of layaway plan just to have them in my collection somehow, but I thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving them to me without charge. God bless and I will spread the word. Peace, Nikea

Man Heru!!! I saw you at the National Poetry Slam in Chicago at an open mic session. U did a poem called the shock and awe campaign. After I heard you, I could not believe that you were not competing. Dreadlock, you would have won the whole sh*t hands down. Really all week at the nationals i was waiting for a chilling moment. not to take anything away from the other poets but they just didn't hit a nerve with me. They weren't all even legit. But your performance, content and delivery made all the others look real weak. sorry i had to say. The truth shall set us all free. remember me the cat who asked you what team you were on and my mouth literally dropped and i started choking when u said you were not competing and that you were only in town because of a family member passing away. Man, Man, Man. I din't even sleep tonight I was thinking about how your presence inspired me.Well, I'm rambling. I can't wait for the world to discover you like I did. They aint even ready. Holla!!!!

Dread, u never get swell headed and never run away like the fools of yonder and close fields dem, spinnin' and wishin' I an' I dizzy for them. I community invisible unity; how we shall forever stand strong together. Yes we shall die, hah! so we na fear and it's still clean souls for u n I! Remember to dance our dance of love African drum beat our connection is stronger there, and teach all the youth dem to dance so and so...oh beautiful capoeira. "...free the people with music..." our Bob Marley sing. Now we clear our eyes and pick our fruits carefully much like the mason builds with chosen pieces, we build our holy place. We groove to our own songs the songs after our very hearts. We look farther and further we look deeper and deeper we look closer and we see a place of our choosing for our delight. Hey Heru I ordered your cds a month ago through the recommendation of my friend, damon. Your delivery of words is off the chain. On top of that the content is like I'm going to school that I was supposed to go to instead of the usual mainstream indoctrination. Seriously, I take notes when I listen to your cds. Keep telling them how "Babylon Is" and how they're "Rotten to the Core". My brother you are truly amazing and the tightest of the "Poets of Today".
